GET QUINCE TIPS: Tips for the Parents

As parents, you are responsible for overseeing all the preparations for your daughter’s grand day. Even thinking about it can give you stress, we have compiled a few tips that will help make your life easier before and during your
daughter’s party to make it a success.

1. The Clock’s Ticking
Planning an event is one thing, but planning a quinceañera is another. Any quince parent can tell you that little details can get away from you, and those details may cost you time and money. Keeping a planner handy is the essential item for being on time and on task. Check out our Quince Countdown for a helpful checklist on items needed for a quince. Even if you choose to go with a party package through a professional planner, always ask questions on what needs to be paid for and taken care of. You will have a less stressful time planning once you know everything is paid for and on time.

2. It’s All About the Money
Throwing a fabulous and memorable party does not require spending a lot of money. Padrinos, godparents, will most likely help in the financial aspects of the quinceañeara, but they should only be an option if they come forward with a request to help pay. Thankfully, some venues offer packages that cover table settings and catering. This is definitely helpful when trying to not buy everything individually. If you’re in a single family home, do your best to put past problems behind you and allow your child’s other parent to contribute – financially or otherwise. The best thing is to have mom and dad on the same page when making arrangements and planning more purchases. But remember, it is not how much you spend but the people you invite that make the party fun.

3. Be Loud and Clear
Every young Latino girl dreams of having a luxurious quinceañera in a grand venue; however, your budget may not allow you to do so. Since you’re paying for a big chunk of the party, tell your child about any expectations that go along with your money. Make sure that the quince girl is doing well in school and that quince preparations are not getting in the way. As a parent it is your responsibility to keep a leveled head and know what is and isn’t worth spending a lot of money on, especially when it is not a necessity. Your attitude will affect the mood of the party, especially for your daughter. Whatever you decide, make sure you make the decision together.

4. Creative Decor
Quinceañeras can range from classic to daring. Decorations play a big part in interpreting these themes or color schemes. Simple ideas such as lighting can improve a room in terms of space and budget. Uplighting can change the color of the walls while giving the illusion of high ceilings. Incorporate your family; add items that are special to you and significant in your daughter’s life. It will be a lovely tribute to the people who love her and are there for her on this special day.

Planning a quinceañera is a lot of work, using both your time and resources. By keeping these tips in mind, you can throw a great party that fits the personality of your daughter and that is memorable for everyone.
